Blog will sure change your business by ADEOLA
Organization needs to have a blog or even participate on social media
is a decision most management boards need to have lots of courage to
take. I have attended meetings and made presentations on these issues
and I believe the answer used to be depend on marketing strategy, target
market and a variety of other factors. But then it is still in the
interest of every business to have an authoritative, official corporate blog. Some organisations, most notably GTBank recently launched its corporate video ( Ndani TV) and blogging platform(blog)
People might take information from corporate blogs with a pinch of salt but they know it is still authoritative. While some organisations have established social media communication platforms, it is still not enough. Most people may miss tweets and status updates especially if they are not watching Facebook every second and don’t check the history of their friends’ pages. However, you can certainly take advantage of content management systems like WordPress, Joomla and Tumblr plug-ins to ensure even people on your social networks are able to get your corporate information across to their peeps. But the world of business communication has changed and the blog is the best tool available (when done right) to address the challenges of life in the 140-character news cycle.

Get set for war if fuel increase by next year..Civil group
The United Action Democracy (UAD), a coalition of citizen
organizations, on Tuesday disclosed its plan to mark last January
protest on subsidy removal.
To this end, the coalition has called on other labour groups to get set for another round of action, aimed at calling the attention of the government to burning issues that are yet resolved.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, UAD said the mass action which will take place in January 2013, is exected to last for at least two days.
The 10-day anti-fuel subsidy removal nationwide protests claimed over ten lives in different states.
A statement released by its leaders Jaye Gaskia and Ken Henshaw said: “The series of events will deepen the unfolding revolutionary process in Nigeria. As the January 2013 date approaches, revelations from investigations on the degree of abuse and rot in the petroleum sector, should frame new demands to government”
“Although it was the unconscionable hiking of fuel prices that triggered our anger and unleashed the fury of the January uprising. We were all very clear that it was unbridled treasury looting that led us down the path where our refineries had become moribund, thus turning a country which is the 6th largest oil producer in the world, with the 3rd largest installed refinery capacity in Africa, into one that depends exclusively on importation of refined products to meet its domestic needs!”
Continuing, the activists said: “We specifically urge two Days of Nationwide Mass Protests accompanied by a 48hour General Strike to mark the first anniversary of the January Uprising and place existing and new demands on the agenda with very clear timelines.”
They added that the action will be in conjuction with the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, civil society groups and other unions.

Messy state of toilets at NYSC camps
Rotimi Ige and Ruth Olurounbi write on the poor sanitation situation
in many National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps which forces corps
members to defecate in the open.
DEFECATING in the open is the way of life in some parts of the world, especially the developing ones. In spite of the UNICEF's Country Representative and Chief Ambassador, Dr Suomi Sakai's worry over the high rate of open defecation practice in Nigeria, some people are not particularly bothered that about 1.7 million tonnes of faeces are being deposited into the environment annually. The faeces, some people say, fertilise the soil on which they grow their crops, while others blame their action on the inactions of the federal government.
Currently, 2.5 billion people on earth lack improved sanitation. A projection by the World Health Organisation (WHO), however, assured of a slight decrease by 2015, leaving only 2.4 billion without improved sanitation. In the meantime, 1.1 billion people around the world practice open defecation, just as they go without access to sanitary toilet and sewage facilities. Of the 2.6 billion people still without toilets, an estimated 980 million are children, according to the United Nations. In India, 626 million people practice open defecation, while 692 million people in South Asia defecate openly. Indonesia has a total of 63 million who practise open defecation. Pakistan comes close second with 40 million, while Ethiopia has 38 million people who live without toilets.

Woman leads gang of armed robbers in Akwa Ibom
The long arms of the law has finally caught up with a gang of armed robbers led by a woman in Akwa-Ibom State.
It was learnt that the culprits who are now cooling their feet in custody of the police in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state specialise in snatching of cars, motorcycles and other valuable items from their unsuspecting victims.
Confessing to be a part of the dare-devil gang, Ubong Dickson, a native of Okoyo community, said he served as a linkman to other members.
The timely arrest of the Armed-robbers was successful due to the great efforts of Ukanafun Police Division and Rivers State Police Command.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, the gangs; a woman and two men, were apprehended by his men at a black spot in Okoyo along Ukanafun-Azumini Road after a tip-off.
The police boss maintained that the arrest of the bandits was in good timing, as they are presently doing their best to purge the state of all forms of crimes, especially as the Christmas and New Year periods were fast approaching.
While assuring the residents of the state of tight security, Dickson also sounded a warning to all criminally-minded persons that the long arms of the law would soon catch up with them and their evil activities.
However, he stated that the arrested robbers would be charged to court as soon as the police concludes with their investigations.

Corps members decry poor state of camp facility
“I was expecting to see a state of the art camp, since it is in the
FCT but I was shocked to find that apart from the toilets, the road
network, the kitchen and dining hall are in terrible shape,’’ she said.
She called on the FCT authority to come to the aid of the camp so that the corps members would enjoy their stay at the camp. Fadila Zakari, a corps member, also accused the FCT Administration of neglecting the camp, adding that the NYSC FCT officials were doing their best to make life bearable.
“My concern is health situation, if care is not taken at the end of the day, some corps members will end up at the hospital because you cannot rule out epidemic outbreak. ’’ NAN also reports that there are complaints in some orientation camps across the country which also describes their deplorable conditions.
